To get Songtreads, unlock the Ocarina, complete Halden’s later training requirement, return to him, find Shax, and win Shax’s first race. Speak to Shax again after the win and accept the boots. The official Songwalker badge confirms the Songtreads unlock.
Current launch walkthroughs report level 25 for Halden’s Tamer in Training step. Use the requirement in your live Quest Log if it changes.
Finish Halden’s prerequisite
Complete The Next Step and claim the Ocarina first. Continue catching, questing, and gaining experience until the Halden objective is satisfied. Reaching the level is not the final action: return to Halden at his campfire and complete the conversation.
His next direction is currently reported as A Leg Up, pointing toward a runner named Shax. If the quest does not appear, check that the Ocarina reward dialogue finished and that Tamer in Training is in Completed rather than merely showing a full requirement.
Find Shax
Shax is reported in a raised, shadowy part of Songkeeper’s Grove with purple walls, near a small campfire and wooden crate. Guides describe red hair, goggles, a scarf, striped clothing, and glowing boots. Follow the current quest marker or Grove path toward the elevated ledges rather than searching Bluestone itself.
Talk to Shax and choose the option to enter his track. Current walkthroughs name the separate race area Shax’s Retreat. Entering it completes the find-and-speak step and begins Quick on Your Feet.
Win Quick on Your Feet
Speak to Shax at the track start and begin the race. Learn the course in sections rather than forcing a perfect first attempt. Keep your camera aimed toward the next platform, use controlled jumps, and avoid cutting a corner before you know the landing surface.
The current race can be retried. If you lose, return to Shax and start again. Spend one attempt learning a difficult turn, then connect the route. A restart is faster than continuing after a fall that places you far behind.
After winning, the game returns you to the start area and updates the quest. Talk to Shax again. The reward is not complete merely because you crossed the finish line.
Claim and activate Songtreads
Continue Shax’s post-race dialogue until the reward card appears. Current wording describes Songtreads as boots that enhance movement through the song. Press Continue and look for the Songwalker badge.
Open the relevant bag or equipment tile and select Songtreads. Current guides say active boots glow and show notes around the player’s feet. If your running speed does not change, reselect the tile before attempting the Bluestone gap.
Songtreads from the first race provide the speed for a long running jump. They do not necessarily provide a double jump. Later progression reports name Echo Step as the separate upgrade that enables another jump while airborne.
Use Songtreads to reach Bluestone Caverns
Follow the route out of Songkeeper’s Grove into Bluestone Approach, where the forest gives way to colder stone and the blue cave entrance. At the wide crystal gap, make sure the boots are active, back up for a long run, sprint toward the edge, and jump at full speed.
Landing in the cave completes the reported Beyond the Grove objective and changes the area to Bluestone Caverns. If you fall short, reactivate the boots, increase the run-up, and jump from the edge. Do not wait for Echo Step; the first crossing is designed around speed and a running jump in current guides.
Troubleshooting
Halden has no new quest. Confirm the Ocarina chain is complete, meet the live training requirement, and speak to Halden again. Leveling elsewhere does not finish his return step.
Shax is not at the track. Start with the Shax conversation in the Grove and choose the teleport/track option. The race takes place in a separate area.
You won but have no boots. Return to Shax at the race start and finish the reward dialogue. Look for the Songwalker badge or unlock card.
The boots are owned but speed is normal. Select the Songtreads equipment tile again and look for the glow or musical effect.
You cannot double jump. The first Songtreads unlock and later Echo Step are separate. Use a full-speed running jump for Bluestone.
You still miss the cave gap. Take a longer run-up, keep the camera straight, and jump from the edge rather than early. Verify the boots remain active after a reset or teleport.
What to do after landing
Look for Marina near the first landing area and accept the current Bluestone introduction. Current routes ask for a Fungstone; keep the catch and select it in the bag before returning. Use the Bluestone Caverns guide for the first route and Quest Guide for hand-in recovery.
