SCROOMS quests connect catching, equipment, songs, movement, and new regions. The most reliable way to progress is to follow the active Quest Log objective, finish the return conversation, and check the reward popup before moving on. A filled counter often means “ready to turn in,” not “reward already claimed.”

The official badge list confirms the existence of the Ocarina, Songtreads, Deepchord, Sorin’s Last Verse, several area Index goals, and later named quest accomplishments. Exact NPC positions, payments, and objective order come from current player walkthroughs and can change.

Choose your quest guide

Use the Ocarina page when The Next Step is active. Use the Songtreads page after the Ocarina route and Halden’s later level check. Use the quest guide when an NPC refuses a turn-in, a required creature was sold, or you need the next named chain.

Opening quest order

Getting Started!

Talk to Leo near spawn, accept the Wooden Lute, equip it, catch one Scroom, and return to Leo. The conversation completes the first-catch step.

Sell and upgrade

Use the Grove merchant stall, sell the intended catch, buy the tutorial-requested Tamer’s Guitar, equip it under Instruments, and close the bag.

The Next Step

Find Halden by the campfire and red tents, interact with all five Weathered Statues, return at 5/5, and accept the Ocarina.

Tamer in Training

Continue catching and reach the level shown by the live quest. Current walkthroughs report level 25, followed by a return to Halden.

A Leg Up / Quick on Your Feet

Find Shax, enter the race area, win, speak to him again, and accept the Songtreads reward.

Beyond the Grove

Equip Songtreads, follow Bluestone Approach, take a running jump across the crystal gap, and enter Bluestone Caverns.

Do not skip the equip, close-bag, return-dialogue, or reward-card steps. They are separate checks in the reported opening route and explain many “quest stuck” reports.

Hold creatures for delivery

Discovering a species in the Index does not give an NPC a copy. When a quest names a creature, keep it in inventory and avoid Sell Inventory until the hand-in is complete. Some turn-ins also require you to select or visibly hold the creature before talking.

In Bluestone Caverns, current guides report New Ground asking for a Fungstone. Catch it, keep it, open the bag, select the Fungstone, and then speak to Marina near the entrance. A 1/1 tracker can mean you have the item, not that you have delivered it.

The same principle applies to later named or variant requests. If the objective says Runic Sigilith, a plain Sigilith does not satisfy the prefix. Read the full result name and keep the exact required catch.

Songs, gates, and movement are separate unlocks

The Ocarina opens a song interface. Homeward Melody is reported to return you to your set spawn, while Song of Passage is used at marked sigil gates. Selecting the wrong song can make a correct input appear ineffective. Always choose the intended song from Known Songs first.

Songtreads provide the movement needed for the first Bluestone gap. Current later progression reports describe Echo Step as a separate reward that adds a second airborne jump. Do not wait for a double jump before the first Bluestone crossing; activate the first boots and use a running jump.

Later route landmarks

Current community walkthroughs describe Mantle of the Songkeeper through Fenna: finish the Grove collection check, keep a Koroom, open the Heart of Thorns with Bloomcall, collect the rose, make the displayed offering, and return for completion. The official Mantle Bearer badge confirms the quest name, while prices and platforming details remain update-sensitive.

The Deepchord route is associated with Pell and Bluestone mechanisms; current guides report that completing the route opens purchase access rather than giving the instrument free. Runestriker officially confirms obtaining Deepchord.

For The Magus’ Requiem, current guides report bringing Iblis a Runic Sigilith, Runic Inkling, and Runic Occulot, entering the Deep Halls, collecting keys, recovering a piano, and returning. Use that only as a working route and follow the current objective wording and payment screen.

Fix a stuck quest

The objective says equip the Guitar. Open Equipment Bag → Instruments, select Tamer’s Guitar, press Equip, and close the bag. Buying is not equipping.

You reached the reported level but nothing changed. Return to Halden and finish his dialogue. A level condition does not replace a turn-in.

The statue count is 4/5. Recheck the five distinct landmarks rather than circling one statue: near Cal’s house, between Luca and Bennie, by the river’s large tree, behind the seller, and toward Shax/Grove Lift in current guides.

An NPC says you do not have the creature. Select the exact named catch in the bag and hold it. If you sold it, catch another; Index discovery is not a physical hand-in.

The race was won but no boots appeared. Speak to Shax again at the finish/start area and continue until the reward popup and Songwalker badge appear.

Clicks do not select dialogue. Current PC reports mention releasing camera control with right-click when the cursor is captured. On touch, use the displayed dialogue control.

Quest-session checklist

Before leaving an NPC, read the new objective. Before selling, scan it for a species, rarity, prefix, or count. Before paying, read the current quote and keep enough Chimes. After finishing an action, look for Quest Updated or Quest Completed and complete any return conversation. After a reward, open the relevant bag tab and equip it separately.

This routine is more reliable than remembering a video’s route because server updates can alter a number while leaving the quest’s overall purpose intact.

FAQ

What quest gives the Ocarina?

Halden’s The Next Step is currently reported to require paying respects at five Grove statues. Return at 5/5 and accept the gift. The official Magic Melody badge confirms the unlock.

What quest gives Songtreads?

Current progression goes through Halden’s later training check, A Leg Up, and Shax’s Quick on Your Feet race. Return to Shax after winning to claim the boots. Songwalker confirms the unlock.

Why did selling complete my Index but break a quest?

The Index records discovery, while an NPC can require a held creature. Catch another copy and protect quest items from bulk selling.
