To get the Ocarina, finish the opening Lute and Guitar tutorial, find Halden in Songkeeper’s Grove, accept The Next Step, interact with all five Weathered Statues, and return to Halden at 5/5. Accept his gift and continue through the unlock popup. The official Magic Melody badge confirms the Ocarina reward.
Prerequisites
Complete Leo’s first-catch turn-in and the sale-and-upgrade sequence. Buy the Tamer’s Guitar requested by the tutorial, equip it under Equipment Bag → Instruments, close the bag, and finish Leo’s dialogue. Leo then directs you toward his uncle Halden.
Halden is currently reported sitting on a log near a campfire and red tents, beside the large Grove tree. Speak to him until The Next Step appears in your Quest Log. Visiting statues before the task is active can make it harder to know which interactions counted.
Find the five Weathered Statues
The statues use a Pay Respects interaction. Current landmark guides place the five stops:
- Beside Cal’s house, in the part of the Grove near Halden.
- Between the houses associated with Luca and Bennie.
- Near the river and a large brown tree, between the waterfall and Beekeeper Jones.
- Behind the seller’s building near the spawn side of the Grove.
- Toward Shax or the Grove Lift, across from the seller-side landmark.
Treat the numbers as a checklist, not an official route order. Camera direction can make “left” or “right” unreliable, so use the named building, NPC area, river, lift, or large tree. After each interaction, check the quest counter. A statue you merely walked past does not count.
Claim the Ocarina
Return to Halden only after the Quest Log reads 5/5. Continue his dialogue and choose the gift response. The reward popup should identify the Ocarina as a tool used to channel songs and interact with the world. Press Continue rather than closing the interface early.
The Ocarina is reported in hotbar slot 5 during the launch route, and Magic Melody appears when the unlock succeeds. If the badge appears but the tool is not active, check your hotbar and Equipment Bag after the dialogue finishes.
Use the song interface
Equip the Ocarina to open its song UI. Current walkthroughs describe a Known Songs panel, a Songsheets tab, a Skip Song toggle, four directional note buttons, and a play/stop control. Select a known song before entering its notes.
The launch guide reports Homeward Melody as Left → Down → Up → Left. It returns you to your set spawn point, which may not always be the original Grove spawn. Use the sequence shown by your current Known Songs entry if an update changes the controls or notation.
The Ocarina is not the instrument used to catch wild Scrooms. Switch back to the Wooden Lute, Tamer’s Guitar, or another catching tool when approaching a creature.
What the Ocarina opens later
Songs can support travel and marked world interactions. Current progression guides associate Song of Passage with sigil-marked gates and other songs with later quests. A melody only works at the obstacle designed for it. Homeward Melody will not open a sealed gate, and a gate song will not replace Songtreads at a platform gap.
The official Songbook badge confirms a goal of learning five Ocarina songs, but it does not publish every sequence. Follow Known Songs in your live interface and avoid entering an unverified sequence from memory.
Troubleshooting
The counter is stuck at 4/5. Revisit the five distinct landmarks and watch the counter after Pay Respects. Check behind the seller and the Shax/Grove Lift side, which are easy to pass while following the main path.
Halden will not give the gift. Confirm The Next Step is active, the count is 5/5, and you have completed the return conversation. Earlier tutorial steps may still be waiting for the Guitar equip or bag close.
The melody does nothing. Select Homeward Melody in Known Songs, use the current displayed inputs, and remember that it returns to the set spawn. At a gate, select the gate’s intended song instead.
You equipped the Ocarina but cannot catch. It is a utility song tool. Re-equip a catching instrument from the bag.
Next progression step
After the Ocarina, continue the Halden progression shown in the Quest Log. Current guides report a level-25 Tamer in Training check, followed by Shax’s race and Songtreads. Open How to Get Songtreads when Halden begins directing you toward the runner.
